TiO₂ Price Forecast: India Anti-Dumping Uncertainty, High Costs and Production Cuts Strengthen September Price Support (2026-07-31 to 2026-08-07)

TiO₂ Price Forecast: India Demand and High Costs Strengthen Price Support

Buyer Summary: The China TiO₂ Market remained weak this week, with domestic downstream purchasing and new-order activity still subdued. However, India’s ongoing anti-dumping developments have stimulated stronger order activity from Indian buyers, while producer inventories are gradually easing. Meanwhile, prolonged geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to keep key TiO₂ raw material costs at elevated levels, maintaining significant production cost pressure and limiting the room for another broad round of price reductions.

1. Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) Market Analysis

  • The TiO₂ market remained weak during the week, with selected producers making quotation adjustments as domestic demand stayed subdued and new-order activity remained limited. Most transactions continued to be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Competition between sulfate-process and chloride-process TiO₂ remained intense, with quotations varying according to supplier inventory, cost structure, operating status, and order conditions.
  • Industry operating rates remained under adjustment. Some major producers reduced output because of equipment and raw material factors, while several small and medium-sized plants continued to operate below normal rates.
  • India’s ongoing anti-dumping developments concerning TiO₂ imports from China have become an important factor for the export market. Market feedback indicates stronger order activity from Indian buyers as customers respond to uncertainty surrounding future import costs and trade conditions.
  • Domestic producer inventories are gradually easing as output is adjusted and export orders absorb part of available supply. This is beginning to reduce the inventory pressure that previously encouraged more aggressive price competition.

2. Titanium Dioxide Pigment Market Trends

  • Domestic ilmenite remained weak as lower TiO₂ operating demand and continued purchasing pressure weighed on transactions. Imported ilmenite also remained under pressure amid high port inventories, limited new orders, and differentiated quotations.
  • Sulfuric acid prices continued to soften in some regions. Smelting acid prices declined by approximately USD 7–15/ton in many areas during the week, while reductions in selected regions exceeded USD 29/ton.
  • Despite the recent correction in some sulfuric acid and ilmenite prices, the overall raw material cost base for TiO₂ production remains high. With geopolitical tensions in the Middle East showing little sign of a quick resolution, uncertainty surrounding sulfur and other upstream raw material supplies continues to support elevated production costs.
  • Persistent high raw material costs, combined with weak TiO₂ selling prices, have compressed producer margins significantly. This cost imbalance has become an important reason why many Chinese TiO₂ producers have temporarily reduced or suspended production, choosing to control losses while waiting for raw material prices to return to more sustainable levels.
  • These temporary production reductions may also help absorb existing inventories and gradually reduce supply pressure. Therefore, although selected raw material prices have softened, the combination of high overall production costs and lower operating rates may provide stronger support for TiO₂ prices going forward.

3. Market Forecast

  • The near-term TiO₂ Price Forecast remains cautious, as domestic downstream demand has not yet shown a broad recovery and transaction activity remains relatively weak.
  • Selective quotation adjustments may still occur among suppliers facing greater shipment pressure, but another broad round of substantial price reductions appears increasingly less likely as producer margins remain compressed and more plants control production.
  • India’s anti-dumping developments are becoming an important variable for China’s TiO₂ export market. Stronger order activity from Indian buyers could accelerate the absorption of available Chinese supply if current purchasing momentum continues.
  • At the same time, prolonged geopolitical tensions in the Middle East may keep sulfur and other key TiO₂ production inputs at relatively high levels. If raw material costs remain elevated, Chinese producers are likely to maintain production discipline rather than continue accepting unsustainable margins.
  • Temporary production reductions by Chinese TiO₂ producers may continue until raw material costs return to more reasonable levels. This could gradually reduce market supply and factory inventories, strengthening the price floor even if domestic demand remains relatively weak.
  • Domestic producer inventories are already beginning to ease, while inventories across parts of the supply chain remain relatively lean. A recovery in replenishment demand could therefore tighten the supply-demand balance more quickly than in previous weeks.
  • With September approaching a traditionally stronger demand period, the combination of Indian export orders, declining producer inventories, high raw material costs, production discipline, and potential restocking demand may gradually strengthen upward momentum in mainstream TiO₂ quotations.
  • For buyers, current market conditions still provide negotiation opportunities, but waiting for another substantial market-wide price reduction may carry increasing risk. A staggered procurement approach may help balance current purchasing opportunities against the possibility of firmer quotations ahead of September.
